Are you also amongst the lot that believes that test cricket is dead ? If thats the case then i think you seriously need a reconsideration..
Granted, some Test Matches can be dull, with poor results, and sleep being the only thing on the agenda. However, people who can say that Test Match cricket is heading back to boring, dull matches shows that they clearly haven't been watching many of the more recent matches.
Not goin too far in history just look at the day's play between India and Srilanka or for that matter this whole series !!
Or the last ashes too..They all have matches that can make u glued to the TV for hours and enjoy it..
Be it Sehwag's great batting or Bhajji's spin or Dhoni's century alongside the tailenders supporting him. All were a real spectacle !!
Who wouldn't agree if i say that a test match is the real form of Cricket?. It puts to test a batsmen's patience n skill, a bowlers perseverance n determination and is a better test of any captain's thoughts n strategies.
The problem is that both the Control boards and the spectators have been neglecting the format n hence its getting less commercial success. BCCI fr that matter seem to be concentrating only on 20-20 matches n making more money and same is being done by all other boards.
This problem has increased with the more One Day and Twenty-twenty matches that are being played, with the fast scoring runs, fast falling wickets, and the fun and crazy atmosphere's at the grounds. But till where i think the Twenty-twenty matches, whilst highly enjoyable, can be seen as non proper cricket.
The damaging and lasting effect that this has already and will continue to have on Test Match and for day cricket is apparent.
Will Test Match Cricket ever be left alone?
Probably not, due solely to the increase on the shortened version of the game, with the recent IPL and ICL causing talk of ACLs and ECLs, and with the success of the Twenty20 World Cup.
The pressure on exciting Test Match cricket has been increased, but as long as the teams play Test Match cricket, there will always be drama, and there will always be upsets.
Test cricket offers the luxury of variety, of leisure, of not always bowing down to what you want.
Only True lovers of the longest format will recognise this and the rest, well, they will complain no matter what.
